Gill Race Team members dominate UK SB3 Nationals

Gill Race Team member Craig Burtlon is currently in first place whilst Geoff Carveth is lying in third.

SB3 National Championships/ Day 2/ Race Review:
Day two of the SB3 National Championships dawned with similar conditions to the first day of racing. The only missing condition was unfortunately the sunshine. The wind maintained its steady easterly direction and fifteen to eighteen knot strength.

After a good night’s rest the Championships competitors left Pendennis Marina in the knowledge that there were in for another day’s tough racing. Of a possible four scheduled races today, Race Officer, Jeff Martin agreed not to start a race after three o’clock to ensure the fleet were back ashore in good time.

When studying the overall results, it appears that the upper echelon of the fleet have found their groove. Mike Budd commented that “I’m now conscious of Geoff [Carveth] and Craig’s [Burlton] positions throughout each race. We are starting to focus on the other championship contenders, it’s really tight and really competitive racing.” The first Championship discard has now been awarded and at the end of day two Craig Burlton, with a score line of 2, 2, 4, has taken overall lead with a total of fifteen points.

Coming ashore, Burlton was “too tired and hungry” to talk fully about his day’s success! Budd lies second with sixteen points and Carveth slides to third with twenty one points after discarding a black flag in race one today. Carveth is confident that he is not out of the Championship and claims there is still plenty to fight for.
