Owen Bowerman and Morgan Peach win the Lake Garda Euro Cup

Owen Bowerman and Morgan Peach win the Lake Garda Euro Cup with a race to spare then go on the win the final race for to show they are good sportsman!

The final days racing was a mixed bag of shifty and gusty conditions, not forgetting the obligatory rain all day! in fact RYA coach Steve Irish got the forecast for the final day just right, bearing in mind he predicted rain for packing the boats away 8 days ago!

The top female team of Vicky Payne and Stephie Orton fought all the way to the wire to get a GBR 1,2,3 however they were tied on points for 3rd missing out on count back to the Germans. The girls have had a fantastic week, and said the love sailing at Lake Garda.

Rounding up a strong GBR performance with a awesome 2nd overall were Matt Venables and Will the Viking Alloway, a nickname given to Will by some of the Dutch crowd they met in Garda!

An awesome trip that saw 6 boats travel from the UK to join the 53 strong fleet.

Morgan and Owen at the 29er Europeans & Worlds

Morgan and Owen have had a fantastic couple of weeks competing in Sopot, Poland for the 29er Europeans, finishing 21st out of 100 boats which was well above expectations as it wa s the boys first big event in the 29er and they are both only 15. (Junior class)

They moved on to Travermunde Race Week in Germany for the 29er Worlds and the boys spent the first 3 days in qualifying fights. When qualifying was over they were 3rd overall, out of 220 boats! After another 3 days racing in Gold fleet gaining as much experience as they could Owen and Morgan ended up a very respectful 21st. That means they can sail with the number 21 on their main sail for the next 12 months as the top 25 boats at the Worlds can.

At the Worlds the boys qualified as top GBR boat and ended up 2nd GBR boat beating lots of the RYA National Youth Squad and 30 other GBR's. The 29er is a Youth/Adult Class the boys were the top junior boat.

Next is the 29er Nationals in Restronguet Cornwall 3rd week in August

Morgan Peach and Owen Bowerman are currently laying 3rd at the 29er Worlds in Travermunde after 3 days of qualifying.

They were also chosen to take part in the "Harbour Race" to represent their country and won! The race was a tight windward leeward 100m course in the mouth of the river of 16 chosen boats in front of circa 2000 spectators in very close quarters, with passing cruise ships and pleasure boats (bit like a medal race!) It was awesome to watch especially as it was commentated on live PA! Team Gill flew their new logoed Kite which looked amazing... see the photos on the Gill Facebook page

Morgan & Herbie nail the final RS Feva GP of the season

Whilst the race team did extremely well to get all six races in by the end of the third race on Saturday it was a fast drift. On Sunday the wind started firmer at some 9 knots but then suffered a wobble causing a very shortened 5th race at some 20 odd minutes for the winners but a decent 6th race was still possible.

Owen Bowerman & Charlie Darling had a cushion at the end of the first day over Debbie & Tommy Darling and Morgan Peach & Herbie Harford (Gill Race Team). This set the scene for not only this GP’s result but also the result of the whole 2011/12 GP Series.

Sunday developed with Morgan & Herbie scorching right back into contention taking the first two bullets of the day. This left Owen & Charlie needing a win and Morgan & Herbie needing to be 4th or lower in the final race. Morgan & Herbie did their bit by having a shocker of a first beat and staging a brilliant recovery but only to 5th. Owen & Charlie were likewise doing their bit in the lead. Debbie & Tommy snuck into the lead with a better layline into the top mark. Owen & Charlie had been superquick down the runs (as well as everywhere else that is). On the final gybes into the bottom mark Debbie & Tommy made it stick and won the race. So, Morgan & Herbie win both the GP & the Circuit in quite dramatic circumstances. Well done to both of them and good luck for the Worlds!
