2011 Gill Sunsail Racing Series
Posted on 23/11/2011

The inaugural year of the 2011 Gill Sunsail Racing Series in the new Sunsail F40s saw 42 identically matched Sunsail F40s with 680 people participating in eight rounds of the Gill Sunsail Racing Series from March through to November 2011.
An action packed final weekend of racing on the Solent, where Portsmouth University’s team, skippered by Mark Briggs, were crowned the 2011 Gill Racing Series champions. Mark Briggs team managed to steal victory with 9 points in front of second placed team skippered by James Anderson also with 9 points and Sam North’s team with 10 points.
Simon Conder, UK Head of Marketing at Sunsail commented; “The Gill Racing Series is a great racing platform for all levels of crews, who want competitive racing without the stress of entering into week long regattas. The weekend racing series is perfect for those with busy working weeks and the identically matched F40s ensure close competitive racing.”
The 2011 Gill Sunsail Racing Series was a great success with 8 different winners from each round, an average of 15 boats raced per weekend and 85 entries received throughout the season. The weather ranged from unseasonal like summer sun in the early rounds through to gales in July!
